The Waterloo girls basketball team is heading to the Sectional Tournament for the first time in school history on Thursday when they head to #1 seed Mineral Point.
The Pirates (11-14) captured the program’s first ever Regional championship with a pair of nail-biting victories last week. Waterloo edged Deerfield 47-44 in the D4 Regional Semifinal and then knocked off Wisconsin Heights 53-51 in the Regional Final.
Senior Skyler Powers leads the Pirates in scoring at 13.1 points per game. Sophomores Julia Asik (10.5ppg) and Sophia Schneider (10.4ppg) also average in double-figures.
Mineral Point (14-5) won the SWAL Conference with an 11-1 league mark. The Pointers are led in scoring by junior Mallory Lindsey (11.7ppg) and Macy Aschliman (10.7ppg). They were ranked 5th in the final wissports.net Division 4 Coaches Poll.
These two teams last met in the postseason on February 24th, 2017 when Mineral Point picked up a 68-47 Regional Semifinal win.
