Waterloo Girls Heading To Sectional For First Time

The Waterloo girls basketball team is heading to the Sectional Tournament for the first time in school history on Thursday when they head to #1 seed Mineral Point.

The Pirates (11-14) captured the program’s first ever Regional championship with a pair of nail-biting victories last week.   Waterloo edged Deerfield 47-44 in the D4 Regional Semifinal and then knocked off Wisconsin Heights 53-51 in the Regional Final.

Senior Skyler Powers leads the Pirates in scoring at 13.1 points per game.  Sophomores Julia Asik (10.5ppg) and Sophia Schneider (10.4ppg) also average in double-figures.

Mineral Point (14-5) won the SWAL Conference with an 11-1 league mark. The Pointers are led in scoring by junior Mallory Lindsey (11.7ppg) and Macy Aschliman (10.7ppg).  They were ranked 5th in the final wissports.net Division 4 Coaches Poll.

These two teams last met in the postseason on February 24th, 2017 when Mineral Point picked up a 68-47 Regional Semifinal win.
