(Beaver Dam) The ribbon will be cut later this month on the new splash pad installed at Beaver Dam’s Swan Park. The aquatic space features a number of different water features and is part of a larger project to restore Swan Park. The city had set aside $1.2-million-dollars to update the park’s lagoons and walking paths.
Beaver Dam Mayor Becky Glewen says it is “exciting” and notes why the city went the route of a splash pad rather than a pool.
“I get questions…‘we’re doing this splash pad why can’t we have a pool’…I think people are going to be really happy with the splash pad,” says Glewen. “I think it’s a great amenity for our community. There’s a lot of things to weigh with a pool…it’s just very, very costly. The one thing that makes it even harder is the operational costs.”
Glewen says communities that have a pool struggle at times to find ways to pay for its upkeep.
The grand opening and ribbon cutting will be held on July 26th. 95.3 WBEV and 1430 ESPN will be on hand for a brat fry that starts at 4pm. A presentation and the ribbon cutting takes place at 5pm which is followed by family activities. The Concerts in the Park series starts at 7pm, featuring the Birddog Blues Band. Beaver Dam’s Swan Park is located at 314 East South Street.
