No Contest Plea in Menards Robbery Case

(Beaver Dam) An Oshkosh man charged with robbing a Beaver Dam store entered a no contest plea yesterday (Wednesday) to lesser charges. Donnie McKenzie pled to a pair of misdemeanor counts of Retail Theft and had the felony Robbery with the Threat of Force as a Repeater dismissed but read into the record. According to the Beaver Dam Police Department, a retail theft was reported just before 9am in September 2020 at the Beaver Dam Menards. McKenzie had taken two dehumidifiers and was confronted by store staff. An employee told investigators the suspect said to (quote) “stop following me unless you want to get shot.” The criminal complaint says the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle heading northbound on Highway 151 and was eventually apprehended by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office. McKenzie was identified as the driver. When questioned, he said he needed money and heard that the stores in Beaver Dam were easy to steal from. The 55-year-old will be sentenced in September.
