(BEAVER DAM) Beaver Dam Mayor Bobbi Marck is explaining why incoming City Administrator Larry Bierke left his last job. Bierke was Iowa County administrator when the county government computer system suffered a massive cybersecurity breach in April.
Marck told Daily Dodge there were calls to fire all three members of Iowa County’s IT department. But Marck said Bierke thought that would be too disruptive.
“Rather than fire all three of these IT members, he said ‘I’ll take responsibility for what happened. It was on my watch, and I will voluntarily resign’,” said Marck.
Bierke comes to Beaver Dam with more than two decades of executive leadership in local government, including service as administrator for Iowa County, city manager for the City of Platteville, village administrator for the Village of Mount Horeb, and city administrator for the City of Hillsboro.
Marck said Bierke comes highly recommended, was thoroughly vetted, and was the Common Council’s top candidate. The Common Council approved Bierke’s appointment unanimously Monday. Bierke starts work on Sept. 16.
