Improvement Work On Highway 33 In Columbia County Begins

(Randolph) The governor recently approved work to improve Highway 33 in Columbia County. In efforts to invest in the state’s transportation system, Tony Evers signed a $6.2-million-dollar contract for upgrades to 33 between Morris Drive and Highway 73 north of Randolph.

Transportation officials say the project is designed to improve safety and traffic operations by installing centerline rumble strips, replacing the bridge deck on the railroad bridge, new pavement markings, and updating guardrail end terminals. Rock Road Companies out of Janesville will serve as prime contractor.

Work is slated to begin this week and Highway 33 will be closed and detoured utilizing Highway’s 16 and 73. Project completion is scheduled for early November. Officials say that schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress.
