(Mayville) Cash bond was set at $5,000 Monday for Hustisford man charged with attempting to flee police custody. Patrick Kocha made his initial appearance on felony Escape charges and a misdemeanor count of Obstruction. On Sunday (November 17th), a Mayville officer ran plates on a vehicle that showed it belonged to a missing individual out of Massachusetts. Kocha, who is the individualโs father, told police his daughter is not missing and that she is staying at a residence on German Street. When asked for his ID, Kocha reportedly said (quote) โI didnโt do anything wrong.โ The 43-year-old then drove off but was pulled over again because of a burnt-out brake light. Kocha allegedly jumped out of the car, stood in between the squad car and his vehicle then walked away when he was told he was being detained. As police attempted to grab Kocha, he reportedly hit an officer in the face and took off on foot. Authorities visited the German Street property and the alleged missing individual told police she was there of her own accord. Police later arrested Kocha when he tried to return to the home. If convicted, Kocha faces over six years in prison. A judge will decide next week if there is enough evidence to order a trial.
