(Leroy) A Beaver Dam man charged with stealing scrap metal from a Brownsville business made his initial appearance in court Monday. Clarence Fraze is facing a felony count of Theft of Movable Property as a Party to a Crime. In April, a Dodge County sheriffโs deputy was dispatched to Grande Cheese after a plant manager reported missing stainless steel from a storage lot. The manager told the deputy that the estimated value of the steel was $500 but around $10,000 of steel was taken in November of 2018. While no complaint was made then, the manager said a trail camera was set up which captured images of a truck driving into the storage area. Fraze, who worked at a restaurant in Beaver Dam and would borrow the vehicle from a co-worker, was questioned. According to the criminal complaint, Fraze admitted to taking the steel in November. He also reportedly implicated a second individual who was the one who told Fraze about the stainless steel. Fraze also allegedly said he was never able to sell the steel because someone else stole it from him. If convicted, the 42-year-old faces up to three-and-a-half years in prison. A signature bond was set at $1,000 and a judge will decide in January if there is enough evidence to order a trial.
