(Iron Ridge) A number of local agencies assisted a possible structure fire at a waste management company in the town of Hubbard. The Iron Ridge Fire Department, along with auto-aid from the Hustisford and Neosho departments, responded to GFL on Highway V around 11:58pm on Monday.
Initial reports received indicated that there were 10-to-15-foot flames in bay three with heavy equipment nearby. While enroute, a large column of smoke and flames were visible.
Upon arrival, crews discovered that no structures were involved and that a large area of landfill was ablaze, combustible gases from a nearby gas vent were ignited, and flames were hitting a nearby bulldozer.
Iron Ridge Fire Chief Jason Keller says hose lines were deployed from their engine and drafting operations were established to extinguish the blaze. He notes that the fire was put out and GFL provided equipment to remove smoldering garbage and smother the area with fill.
All units cleared the scene by 1:38pm. Keller adds that there was heat damage to the bulldozer and a gas tube, the rest of the damage consisted of burned garbage.
