(Portage) There were injuries reported following a commercial kitchen fire in Portage. Portage Fire and Rescue was dispatched to 2756 New Pinery Road at 11:27am on Tuesday.
Enroute to the scene, crews were advised that the kitchen fire was extinguished but there was smoke coming from the roof and eaves. When firefighters arrived, they encountered light smoke coming from a one-story commercial structure. Upon entry into the building, the department found light smoke but no fire.
As they began overhaul operations, firefighters located flames in the rafters extending out onto the roof. The crews laddered the structure to find flames coming from around the kitchen exhaust system. Crews began removing the roofing materials to gain access to the fire. They completed overhaul to stop the spread of the fire through the rafters.
Two individuals were transported to the hospital for burns and then returned to monitor firefighter wellness during the incident. Alliant Energy was called to advise on options for shutting down electricity and natural gas.
There were no firefighter injuries reported. The cause of the blaze was from water being accidentally introduced to hot oil.ย
