MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers is scheduled to raise the Progress Pride Flag over the Wisconsin State Capitol on Monday to mark the start of Pride Month in Wisconsin. The flag-raising ceremony is set for noon Monday, June 1, at the Capitol’s east entrance, near Main and King streets in Madison.
According to the governor’s office, this will be the eighth year in a row that a Pride flag has been raised at the Capitol. Evers first ordered the Rainbow Pride Flag to fly over the East Wing in 2019. In recent years, the state has used the Progress Pride Flag, which includes additional colors recognizing LGBTQ people of color, the transgender community, and those living with or lost to HIV/AIDS. Previous executive orders from the governor’s office also note the 2019 first raising and the shift to the Progress Pride Flag beginning in 2022.
The governor’s office says the Progress Pride Flag will fly over the East Wing beginning at noon Monday and remain there through sunset Tuesday, June 30, adding the U.S. flag and Wisconsin state flag will continue to fly above the Progress Pride Flag on the East Wing flagpole. The POW-MIA flag will continue flying on the North Wing flagpole.
Evers is also expected to sign Executive Order #297, authorizing state buildings and Wisconsin jurisdictions to fly the Progress Pride Flag during June. The governor’s office says Evers has also proclaimed June 2026 as LGBTQ Pride Month in Wisconsin.
Monday’s event is expected to include members of the governor’s cabinet, elected officials, LGBTQ community members, allies and advocates.
