Watertown Regional Medical Center earns “A” safety grade

WATERTOWN — Watertown Regional Medical Center has received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group in its spring 2026 ratings. The grade is the fourth consecutive “A” for Watertown Regional and the hospital’s tenth “A” in the last 13 Leapfrog grading periods. The hospital was one of 16 in Wisconsin to receive the top grade in the spring 2026 release.

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization that reviews hospital safety. Its grades are based on more than 30 measures, including errors, accidents, injuries, infections and the systems hospitals use to prevent harm.

Watertown Regional CEO Richard Keddington said the recognition reflects the hospital’s focus on patient safety, clinical excellence and transparency. Leapfrog President and CEO Leah Binder also praised the hospital’s leadership, staff, clinicians, board and volunteers for their role in earning the grade. Leapfrog updates hospital safety grades twice a year, in the spring and fall. The group says its Hospital Safety Grade program focuses on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries.

The safety grade follows other recent recognitions for Watertown Regional. The hospital said three specialty services received five-star designations from Healthgrades in October, and the hospital was included in Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2025 list of “Great Community Hospitals.”
