Dodge County Board Adopts 2024 Budget

(Juneau) The Dodge County Board adopted its 2024 budget at their meeting Tuesday. The mill rate of $3.57 per thousand-dollars of assessed value is down 39-cents from the current budget year, while county property values are up 12-percent to $9.6-billion-dollars.

The $173.9-million-dollar document includes a tax levy of $36.5-million, which is up roughly $525-thousand-dollars from 2023. Dodge County Administrator Cameron Clapper says he is โ€œthrilledโ€ the budget has been approved.

โ€œAppreciate the amendments that were proposed and also the discussion that was had,โ€ says Clapper. โ€œSo, we were able to identifyโ€ฆI thinkโ€ฆsome concerns held by some of our county supervisorsโ€ฆlegitimate concerns [that] weโ€™ll look to address those through operations and policy over the next year but thrilled about the budget and where we are.โ€

Last yearโ€™s budget meeting took over seven-and-a-half hours. Changes were made this year to streamline the process to avoid a repeat of 2022. Yesterdayโ€™s meeting lasted a little over three hours. Clapper says the efforts made proved successful and credited the supervisors for making it happen.

โ€œThat is one-hundred-percent on them and they did a great job,โ€ says Clapper. โ€œI really appreciate not only the amount of time put in but there was a lot moreโ€ฆI thinkโ€ฆbetween supervisors and staff members a lot more confidence in each other in the messages that were being shared. So, they had confidence enough not to provide as many amendments as they had before.โ€

Last year there were 41 amendments brought forth for discussion, this year it was just 13.
