(Juneau) The Dodge County Board adopted its 2024 budget at their meeting Tuesday. The mill rate of $3.57 per thousand-dollars of assessed value is down 39-cents from the current budget year, while county property values are up 12-percent to $9.6-billion-dollars.
The $173.9-million-dollar document includes a tax levy of $36.5-million, which is up roughly $525-thousand-dollars from 2023. Dodge County Administrator Cameron Clapper says he is โthrilledโ the budget has been approved.
โAppreciate the amendments that were proposed and also the discussion that was had,โ says Clapper. โSo, we were able to identifyโฆI thinkโฆsome concerns held by some of our county supervisorsโฆlegitimate concerns [that] weโll look to address those through operations and policy over the next year but thrilled about the budget and where we are.โ
Last yearโs budget meeting took over seven-and-a-half hours. Changes were made this year to streamline the process to avoid a repeat of 2022. Yesterdayโs meeting lasted a little over three hours. Clapper says the efforts made proved successful and credited the supervisors for making it happen.
โThat is one-hundred-percent on them and they did a great job,โ says Clapper. โI really appreciate not only the amount of time put in but there was a lot moreโฆI thinkโฆbetween supervisors and staff members a lot more confidence in each other in the messages that were being shared. So, they had confidence enough not to provide as many amendments as they had before.โ
Last year there were 41 amendments brought forth for discussion, this year it was just 13.
