(Columbus) A convicted sex offender was sentenced to six in years in prison Monday for having illegal images of children. In September, David Brickett pled guilty to a felony count of Possession of Child Pornography. Officials with the state Justice Department Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant in January of 2018 at Brickettโs rural Columbus residence. Investigators uncovered images of prepubescent children on a computer that belonged to Brickett. According to the stateโs Sex Offender Registry, the 54-year-old was convicted of Possessing Child Pornography in Alabama in 1995. In 2013, he was convicted in Adams County of three felony counts of Registered Sex Offender Intentionally Photographing a Minor Without Consent. As a condition of his probation, Brickett is required to report any websites he is registered with to the Sex Offender Registry Program, however authorities say he failed to do that. During sentencing, Assistant District Attorney Yolanda Tienstra said the overwhelming harm here is that even though Brickett is convicted, the child porn images are out on the internet forever. Adding that those children will be victims again and again. Brickett was also placed on extended supervision for six years.
