Columbus Schools to Spend Last of 2020 Referendum Funds

(COLUMBUS) After finding no suitable land to purchase, the Columbus school district will instead spend the last $1 million of the $30 million voters approved in a 2020 referendum on capital improvement projects.

“Those big hitters are always those roofing sections, which we have two different ones that I would anticipate us doing,” said Superintendent Jake Flood. “Additionally, by Columbus Elementary School, there’s some sidewalk work that would make it safer and definitely cleaner, that we’re looking into as well.”ย

The school board had set aside the last $1 million for a land purchase, but noย viableย site was ever found.ย Flood says by statute, the school board was required to spend the money within a certain timeline, and the purpose was required to fit within the referendum question voters approved.
