Residents in Beaver Dam may see a large police and fire presence Tuesday morning near Marshfield Medical Center, but officials say it is part of a planned training exercise.
According to the Beaver Dam Police Department, the police and fire departments will hold the exercise Tuesday, June 2, alongside staff at Marshfield Medical Center, 707 S. University Ave. A portion of the Peace Lutheran Church parking lot will also be used as a simulated staging area for brief periods.
The training is scheduled to run from about 8 a.m. to noon. During that time, police say there will be numerous police and fire vehicles and personnel in the area. Signs will be posted to notify the public when training is in progress.
During an appearance today on Community Comment, a Beaver Dam police official said the exercise is a joint training involving police, fire and the hospital. The official said people may see a large emergency responder presence near the hospital and Peace Lutheran Church, but emphasized that it is not a real emergency.
โThereโs nothing major going on, for real,โ the police official said. โWe are training for something that if something major did happen, weโre ready to respond to that appropriately.โ
Normal operations at Marshfield Medical Center are expected to continue during the training.
Police are asking residents not to call emergency numbers simply to report the training activity. However, officials said residents should still call if they see other suspicious activity or have an emergency of their own.
