BDFD receives more than $8,000 for cadet program, rescue tools

The Beaver Dam Fire Department is receiving more than $8,000 in outside funding for its cadet program and rescue equipment.

The Common Council voted Monday to accept a $5,000 grant from United Way of Dodge County for the Beaver Dam Cadet Program. During the meeting, fire officials said that money will go toward the programโ€™s gear replacement needs.

Council members also accepted $1,000 in donations from United Cooperative and the Land Oโ€™ Lakes Foundation, along with a $2,279.30 donation from Fox Brothers Piggly Wiggly through its โ€œRound Upโ€ program. Those donations are designated for battery-powered extrication tools to be placed on a new fire engine expected to arrive in 2027.

Fire officials told the council the department is seeking outside funding to help equip the new engine and reduce future budget costs.

The total grant and donation amount accepted Monday was $8,279.30.
