(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam School Board approved the formation of a girls’ co-op swim team this week. Athletic Director Ryan Gerber calls it’s a numbers game.
“Our numbers have been decreasing for quite some time in girls’ swim,” says Gerber. “It is an individual sport, but given a numbers situation, opportunities have been lost for our girls.”
Gerber says he wants consistency and stability in the program with hopes to create more coaching opportunities. He has reached out to multiple schools including Randolph, Waupun, and Wayland Academy to gauge interest. Gerber sees this as a positive.
“In my belief, co-oping with these other three programs would give us the opportunity to expand our team, while also trying to build in-house.”
The plan is to begin the co-op next school year if a partner school is found.
