Dodge County Board Approves 2023 Budget

(Juneau) The Dodge County Board adopted the 2023 budget Tuesday. The mill rate of $3.96 per thousand-dollars of assessed value is down 82-cents from the current budget year, while county property values are up 15-percent to $8.6-billion-dollars.

The $149.8-million-dollar document includes a tax levy of $36-million, which is up roughly $300-thousand-dollars from 2022. Before budget adoption, the proposed tax levy was closer to $37.9-million. That was due to the addition of $1.9-million-dollars in debt tax levy.

That move was floated to free up sales tax dollars to be used for operational expenses. Multiple county board members and even the public spoke out against the measure.

During budget talks, supervisors were able to reallocate dollars elsewhere allowing them to use the sales tax fund to eliminate the debt service levy. An amendment that was unanimously supported by the county board.
