Beaver Dam Community Action Plan Committee Focused On Expanding Bike, Pedestrian Trails

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Community Action Plan Committee is narrowing in on two projects they hope to see come to fruition. At the beginning of the year, members of the community formed seven sub-committees to develop an outline that would help guild the formation of the cityโ€™s next Comprehensive Plan.

The committee meet for several months and presented their ideas during a presentation at the Beaver Dam High School in May. City Administrator Nathan Thiel says there are a handful of (quote) โ€œdiehardโ€ committee members that continue to meet with him every couple of weeks and two priorities have been outlined.

โ€œFirst was a bike and pedestrian plan for the entire cityโ€ฆin particular because the county is still talking about the Gold Star Memorial Trail and getting that connected to Beaver Dam,โ€ says Thiel. โ€œAlso, just in general, expanding the trial systems that we have in play as well as the bike routes.โ€ย ย

Thiel notes that goal is to get some financial planning done to conduct cost analysis.

He adds that the other priority is identifying the city by neighborhoods.

โ€œTrying to create, basically, classifications of neighborhoodsโ€ฆand I think we all know the different neighborhoods of the community but there arenโ€™t any really markings or a map,โ€ says Thiel. โ€œAnd sometimes individuals that are new to the community arenโ€™t necessarily able to keep the same orientationโ€ฆand so that was the intent of this other project.โ€
