(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Community Action Plan Committee is narrowing in on two projects they hope to see come to fruition. At the beginning of the year, members of the community formed seven sub-committees to develop an outline that would help guild the formation of the city’s next Comprehensive Plan.
The committee meet for several months and presented their ideas during a presentation at the Beaver Dam High School in May. City Administrator Nathan Thiel says there are a handful of (quote) “diehard” committee members that continue to meet with him every couple of weeks and two priorities have been outlined.
“First was a bike and pedestrian plan for the entire city…in particular because the county is still talking about the Gold Star Memorial Trail and getting that connected to Beaver Dam,” says Thiel. “Also, just in general, expanding the trial systems that we have in play as well as the bike routes.”
Thiel notes that goal is to get some financial planning done to conduct cost analysis.
He adds that the other priority is identifying the city by neighborhoods.
“Trying to create, basically, classifications of neighborhoods…and I think we all know the different neighborhoods of the community but there aren’t any really markings or a map,” says Thiel. “And sometimes individuals that are new to the community aren’t necessarily able to keep the same orientation…and so that was the intent of this other project.”
