(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Community Activities and Services Department was recently awarded state accreditation through the Wisconsin Association of Senior Centers. The accreditation process is a quality assurance program that examines 19 different standers and requires community involvement in the self-assessment process. Those review standards include mission and purpose, goals and objectives, community planning, administration, fiscal management, and other critical standards. Community Activities and Services Department Administrator Jana Stephens says their Reaccreditation Committee was greatly involved in the self-assessment process. She says they were scheduled to meet for eight months to review mission, goals, and objectives and to examine budget, policies, operations, procedures, and their facility. The process began in February and the 667-page self-assessment manual was completed in August. Stephens says being state accredited is quite an accomplishment and this is the fifth time their organization has achieved this status. She says it makes a significant statement to their staff, elected officials, advisory committee, participants, and community that they offer quality programs, activities and services and provide them in a comfortable setting with accountability. Stephens says they are very proud to have a team that took on this challenge and accomplished it.
