(Columbus) A person has died over the weekend from injuries sustained in a house fire in Columbus. The Columbus fire and police departments were dispatched to 235 West Harrison Street around 5:25am Friday.
First responders arrived on scene within 45 seconds of the call to find a fully engulfed two-story home and an individual critically injured in the front yard. The person was transported to Prairie Ridge Health and was immediately flown to the burn unit at UW Hospital in Madison by Med Flight.
On Saturday evening that individual, who was identified as Kathleen Hamilton of Columbus, died from her injuries. The 63-year-old was one of two residents of the home.
The State Fire Marshallโs Office was called to the scene as part of the investigation. The findings indicated the blaze started on the porch, but the specific cause was deemed undetermined. Authorities say factors were identified on the porch that could have been the cause. They add that nothing suspicious was discovered and no foul play is suspected.
