(Beaver Dam) An apartment building in Beaver Dam is uninhabitable following a fire late Saturday night. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office received a report of smoke in the area of 116 Lake Crest Drive around 11:44pm.
The Beaver Dam Fire Department responded immediately to investigate. Fire Chief Michael Wesle says firefighters were able to quickly identify that the smoke was coming from 113 Lake Crest Drive. Upon further investigation, crews located flames on the second floor of an eight-unit apartment complex.
Wesle says the captain on scene immediately requested additional resources and called a MABAS Box Alarm. He notes that firefighters were able to safely evacuate the building and bring the fire under control within an hour.
One apartment experienced significant smoke, fire, and water damage. Adjacent units suffered water and smoke damage. The chief says the entire building is uninhabitable due to the blaze. Occupants are receiving aid from the Red Cross and have been provided with temporary housing. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Mutual aid was provided by fire departments in Juneau, Burnett, Brownsville, Horicon, Randolph, Columbus, Mayville, Clyman-Lowell-Reeseville, and Watertown. Mayville EMS, the Beaver Dam Police Department, and Alliant Energy also assisted at the scene.
