(FRIENDSHIP) A woman was found dead Wednesday morning after a fire tore through her home in the Town of Friendship.
Fond du Lac County dispatchers received a report of a structure fire around 10:13 a.m. at N7849 Lakeshore Drive. A nearby resident called 911.
When deputies arrived, they saw smoke coming from the attic of the one-story home. Firefighters went inside and found an 81-year-old woman dead in a bedroom.
Crews from North Fond du Lac, Van Dyne, Eldorado, Lamartine, the Town of Fond du Lac, Nekimi, and the City of Fond du Lac responded to the scene. EMS teams from North Fond du Lac and the City of Fond du Lac, along with Van Dyne first responders, also assisted. Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the North Fond du Lac Police Department and troopers from the Wisconsin State Patrol were on scene.
Investigators believe the fire started in the basement. Crews brought it under control and extinguished it quickly.
The woman’s name has not been released.
The cause of the fire and the manner of death remain under investigation, according to Lt. Nick Kahnke of the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
