Wisconsin Congressman Introduces Bipartisan Bill To Address Prison Staffing Shortage

(Glenbeulah) Wisconsin Congressman Glenn Grothman has co-introduced a bill to address staffing shortages in prisons across the country.

The bill, which Grothman worked on with Congressman Matt Cartwright of Pennsylvania, aims to cut bureaucratic red tape that will enhance the safety and security of Bureau of Prisons personnel. Grothman says there are labor shortages everyone in this country, but when it comes to hiring correctional officers, it is unnecessarily multiplied by the federal bureaucracy. He adds that for many years, staffing ratios at numerous Bureau of Prisons facilities have fallen below safe or sustainable levels, posing increased risks to the safety and well-being of both BOP personnel and inmates.

The legislation received support from 11 cosponsors as well as the Council of Prison Locals, which is the largest union for Bureau of Prisons employees nationwide.
