Beaver Dam senior Maty Wilke became the school’s all-time leading scorer as the Golden Beavers blew by Plymouth 91-29 on Saturday afternoon at the BDHS Fieldhouse. The UW recruit drilled a three pointer from the left corner with 4:06 left in the first half to pass Cassidy Trotter (’17) who finished with 1159 career points. Wilke scored 20 of her 22 points in the first half and now has 1163 career points in a BD uniform.
“Just growing up and watching all the great players come through this program it means a lot, because I looked up to them and to be put in the level at they’re at just means a lot to me.” Wilke told DailyDodge.com’s Mike Throndsen after the game. “I’m most grateful to have this opportunity to play my senior season. Not knowing if we were going to have it or not, I’m just grateful to play on my home court in a Beaver Dam jersey this year.”
A few days after exploding out to a 53-0 lead at Portage, Beaver Dam jumped out to an 11-0 cushion and didn’t give up their first field goal to the Panthers until 10:50 left in the half, when they led 32-6. The Golden Beavers led 58-13 at the half. The Golden Beavers have outscored their opponents a combined 116-15 in the first half of their first two games this season.
Minnesota State-Moorhead recruit Natalie Jens led Beaver Dam with 25 points, including five three-points. Wilke had 22, and Northern Kentucky recruit Paige Hodgson drilled three triples and finished with 13 points.
Beaver Dam (2-0) will travel to Fort Atkinson on Tuesday night.
