(Waupun) The city of Waupun has released the results of a fire and emergency response staffing study. Call volume for fire and emergency medical response services has been rising with city data showing a decline in available responders and times that the contracted ambulance service was unavailable for 911 calls.
The staffing study was commissioned in 2023 by the Waupun Common Council to evaluate and recommend a staffing structure that ensures sustainability of essential emergency response services for city residents.
The report outlines a series of recommendations including combining city and community fire services to reduce cost overall for residents; pain-on-call firefighters should expand from 28 to 38; and make improvement to the public safety building to address immediate and future staffing needs.
Waupun Administrator Kathy Schlieve notes that the city is at its levy limit and any path forward requires community support. She says that this is a high-level study, adding that next steps must include community discussion and more detailed analysis to confirm budgets and supporting operational plans.ย ย
The common council will next discuss the matter at their May 28th meeting. The full report can be viewed on the cityโs website. Click HERE to view the site.
