Waupun Police Make Arrest During High-Risk Traffic Stop

(Waupun) The chief of police in Waupun is praising the collaborative work of law enforcement for safely resolving a high-risk incident in the city. Around 8pm Tuesday, the Waupun Police Department received an assist request from Baraboo police.

Waupun Chief Jeremy Rasch says they asked for help in locating a suspect in connection to a serious incident in their jurisdiction. Baraboo police advised that a firearm was alleged to have been used during that incident, and the suspect was believed to be armed with multiple firearms. They also reported that the suspect was in the Waupun area.

A Waupun officer located the suspectโ€™s vehicle around 8:51pm and a high risk traffic stop was initiated near North Division Street and West Main Street. Fond du Lac County sheriffโ€™s deputies assisted Waupun police during the stop which saw two people taken into custody without incident.

The driver was identified as the wanted suspect that Baraboo police were after while the passenger was determined to have not been involved and was released. Two firearms were recovered from the vehicle. Chief Rasch notes that no officers or citizens were harmed during this incident.ย
