Waupun Police Department Reminds Motorists Of Winter Parking Rules

(Waupun) The Waupun Police Department is reminding motorists about winter parking and the rules they must follow. Chief Jeremy Rasch says if it snows and the city accumulates two inches or more, no parking is allowed on the streets for 48 hours.

โ€œWe typically measure at the local measuring location at the safety building, and we typically measure at about 11:59[pm] because we need to know if we can cite or enforce the ordinance from 2am to 6am that following morning,โ€ says Rasch.

Rasch says if that occurs, law enforcement will go out and begin to cite vehicles that have been parked that morning and the following morning. He says the reasoning for the following morning is because most of the time the department of public works must come out and pick up the remaining piles of snow, they were unable to get to before.

โ€œSo, the first night, theyโ€™re in essence trying to keep the roads clean,โ€ Rasch says. โ€œThe second night theyโ€™re trying to clean up the piles and the leftover snow.โ€

The chief acknowledges there may not be snow on every street but says this is the easiest way the ordinance could be written.
