(Waupun) The Waupun Police Department is providing an update to what they call a “horrific” dog attack that occurred on April 4th. On that date, officers were called to the 200 block of Fond du Lac Street for a report that a child was attacked by three dogs.
The child was transported to a medical facility for severe injuries suffered during the incident. The child’s 34-year-old father was also bitten.
Authorities Tuesday said that the three dogs were quarantined at an approved secure facility for 10 days, per statutory requirement. Due to the severity of the incident, Waupun police confirmed that the dogs were transported to the facility and were in regular contact with the victims and the owner of the dogs since the incident.
The police department is required to follow all procedures, statutes, and ordinances when dealing with dog bites and dog attack incidents. Officials with the department say they understand the safety concerns that were expressed throughout the community, and they conveyed many of those same concerns to the owner of the dogs.
They say that the three dogs were humanely euthanized at the facility.
Law enforcement officials say they again hope for the young boy and his father to recover quickly from their injuries and the trauma.
