Waupun Man Sentenced For Injuring Officer

9/22/17 – A Waupun man who sparked a police chase that resulted in injuries to a sheriff’s lieutenant was sentenced yesterday to one year in jail. Matthew Ellcey pled no contest in July to felony Obstructing an Officer Resulting in Bodily Harm. A second felony count of Fleeing and Eluding an Officer was dismissed but read into the record. During a traffic stop on Highway 49 in March, the lieutenant reached in the car to try and stop Ellcey who was slowly putting his vehicle into gear. The 23-year-old dragged the lieutenant a short distance before heading to Waupun where he crashed his vehicle and took off on foot before being apprehended. The officer was treated and released from Waupun Memorial Hospital. Ellcey had a three-year prison sentence imposed and stayed and will be able to serve his one year in jail with work release privileges. He must also pay $1300 in restitution.
