(Waupun) The Waupun Fire Department recently participated in a training that simulated a fire in a garage at Rock River Intermediate School. Firefighters worked on establishing a water supply by hooking up to a hydrant, deploying fire attack lines, pumping, and aerial operations.
“So, it was a great opportunity for us to be able to practice which hydrants we are going to use, what our vehicle setup looks like, where our line is going,โ says Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa. โHow are we going to basically distribute our workforce once we are there to be able to handle the emergency?โ
DeMaa appreciates the community for allowing emergency crews to do training at public buildings.
โSo, those real-world opportunities, buildings that we could be responding to in the community,โ DeMaa says. โItโs priceless to have those relationships where we have got the chance to actually be able to set up there and practice.โ
The crews also simulated a mayday scenario where a firefighter got separated from their crew.
