After back-to-back WIAA State Tournament appearances, the Watertown High School softball team is ready to be contenders once again in 2026.
The defending Badger Large Conference champions return a pair First Team All-Conference players in Cali Craig and Allison Howlett. Ava Novatny was a 2nd Team choice. Lexi Lambert also earned Honorable Mention honors last season. Additionally Craig, a Syracuse recruit, was named First Team All-State by the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association.
The Goslings will be playing this season without First Team All-State and All-Badger Large outfielder Breanna Meracle. The Louisville commit sufferd a knee injury during gymnastics this past winter.
Like many teams this spring, Watertown has battled the weather to get games in. The Goslings have played just two contests so far, falling to Monona Grove 4-3 on April 7 before rebounding with an 8-1 win over Milton on April 9.
Watertown has made 11 total appearances in the WIAA State Tournament, finishing as state runner-up in 1981, 1984, 2015, and 2016. In each of the past two seasons, the Goslings were eliminated in the quarterfinal round at Goodman Diamond.
Watertown is scheduled to host Waunakee on Thursday afternoon (April 16) but field conditions and rain may impact that contest.
