(WATERTOWN) The Watertown school board will tackle a controversy over music, history, and student expression Tuesday night.
The question is whether the Watertown Wind Symphony should perform a piece of music called โA Mother of a Revolution.โ It was inspired by the 1969 Stonewall Uprising and transgender activist Marsha P. Johnson. Some school board members tell TMJ4 TV that theyย donโtย thinkย itโsย appropriate forย a high school concert.ย
But the composer is pushing back. Omar Thomas calls the criticism โignorant.โย Heโsย urging the school board to let students perform. Students sayย theyโveย spent months preparing and worry about censorship.
