(WATERTOWN) The Watertown school board will tackle a controversy over music, history, and student expression Tuesday night.
The question is whether the Watertown Wind Symphony should perform a piece of music called “A Mother of a Revolution.” It was inspired by the 1969 Stonewall Uprising and transgender activist Marsha P. Johnson. Some school board members tell TMJ4 TV that they don’t think it’s appropriate for a high school concert.
But the composer is pushing back. Omar Thomas calls the criticism “ignorant.” He’s urging the school board to let students perform. Students say they’ve spent months preparing and worry about censorship.
