(Watertown) The leader of the Watertown Fire Department recently provided a staffing update on WBEV’s Community Comment.
“So, we actually have a few openings yet,” says Fire Chief Tanya Reynen. “We had a retirement come up, and then a couple openings that were there when I started. So, we’ve run a couple processes throughout the year, and we are looking at changing a few things so that we can open the doors for some people, maybe that don’t have paramedic yet or that are looking at coming over at a different time of the year rather than after they’re already enrolled in class.”
Reynen says there will be a new hiring process opening soon.
“Where we’re gonna be hiring firefighter EMTs and then giving them the time to take paramedic later on.”
The fire chief says the department is excited about the opportunities and they want to ensure they are hiring the right people and not hiring someone just because they have the certification.
