Virtual Presentation To Cover Rise Of Vaping, Drug Abuse Among Teens

(Dodge County) An upcoming virtual presentation aims to shine a light on the dangers of substance abuse among teens. Hosted by the Allies for Substance Abuse Prevention Dodge County, the free event will cover the rise of vaping devices and other substances. It will also provide practical information on current drug trends, show a walk-through of a teens’ bedroom with more than 50 red flags that could indicate substance abuse and discuss proactive parenting strategies.

According to the American Lung Association, more than 5-million US middle and high school students have reported using e-cigarettes in the last 30 days. A Surgeon General’s health advisory states that one-third of students used e-cigarettes as a delivery device for marijuana. The presentation will feature two speakers: Sandy Lybert who is the founder of Your Choice to Live as well as the organizations executive director. Your Choice to Live is a non-profit that provides alcohol and drug prevention education as well as intervention support. Since its inception in 2009, the group has helped more than 700 families and spoke to more than 175-thousand students across Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.

The virtual presentation will be held on September 24th beginning at 6:30pm and ending around 8pm. The event is for adults only, 21-years-of-age or older, and attendees will also receive a Your Choice Handbook.
