TOWN OF CALUMET – A 16-year-old passenger was killed and several other teens were hurt Saturday evening in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Fond du Lac County.
According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriffโs Office, its communications center received multiple 911 calls around 7:17 p.m. June 13 reporting a rollover crash on Highway HH in the Town of Calumet.
Deputies responded with the Calumet Fire Department and the Calumet County Sheriffโs Office. Authorities say additional ambulance resources were requested after responders learned five to six people may have been involved.
The sheriffโs office says a preliminary investigation indicates a sport utility vehicle was traveling west on Highway HH when it failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, struck a culvert and driveway, became airborne, hit a utility pole, and rolled over.
A 16-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name is being withheld pending family notification.
The driver, a 16-year-old girl from Sheboygan, and a 15-year-old passenger were taken by ambulance to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. Another 15-year-old passenger was flown to Childrenโs Hospital in Milwaukee. A different 15-year-old passenger was taken by parents to St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan for medical evaluation. A 14-year-old passenger was not injured and was released to a parent at the scene.
The sheriffโs office says impairment appears to be a contributing factor based on the preliminary investigation. The 16-year-old driver was arrested and taken to the Fond du Lac County Jail on suspicion of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.
The case remains under active investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriffโs Office. Highway HH was closed for about five hours while emergency crews responded and investigators processed evidence.
