(Dodge County) Registration is open for The Arc of Dodge County’s special Pig Pals event. Pig Pals takes place on the last day of the Dodge County fair, where an Arc Member or person with different physical and/or mental abilities teams up with a swine exhibitor.
The Arc’s Chairperson, Mary Pat Boschert, described the event. She said, “Pig Pals is a program that was developed five years ago.” She began. “My son was at the state fair, and he was a participant with students with different abilities. They had the opportunity to interact and show friendship. And to teach them how to care for, feed, clean, (and) walk the pig in an actual show ring. He wanted to bring that to Dodge County.”
Boschert noted that the first Pig Pals five years ago only had six participants. This year has a necessary entrant cap of 20, showing the events growth. The exhibitor and participant for Pig Pals receive matching shirts that are funded by sponsors, and the teams take pictures. Boschert added how much the participants really enjoy this extra part to help them feel connected to the show. There will also be a large safety staff on hand.
All are invited to attend as audience members on August 18th at 10:30 AM. Those interested in partaking in this event should contact Mary Pat Boschert. Visit The Arc of Dodge County’s website HERE for more information.
