(Beaver Dam) The public is encouraged to attend several different events happening throughout Wayland Academy’s Homecoming. Activities kick off Friday and run through Sunday for the coed college preparatory school located in Beaver Dam. Director of Advancement Carrie Ahlborn says the community is welcome to their second annual Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony.
“And we’re inducting some amazing scholar athletes who have distinguished themselves as athletes here at Wayland and then have gone on and continued to serve out the mission of Wayland,” says Ahlborn.
There will be 12 inductees including the undefeated 1956-57 varsity football team. The ceremony gets underway at 2pm Friday at the Field House.
Head of School Jason Warnick encourages Beaver Dam residents to attend the naming ceremony for Janik Field House happening on Saturday at 3pm.
“Those of you in town…driving by… can probably see some of the work being done and it’s still a work in progress,” says Warnick. “We’re going to dedicate the building…obviously, we have already named it in honor of Jim Janik who is the class of ’74…who grew up here in Beaver Dam. Jim and his wife Susan were really the [visionaries]…generous donors who made this happen.”
Last year, Jim and Sue Janik announced a $1-million-dollar donation to update the restrooms and locker room facilities of the Field House.
Director of Marketing Crystal Verran says they have also reopened their school store.
“So, if you are an alum…a former faculty member…or just a friend of the academy the school store will be open on Friday between 8:30am and 4pm,” says Verran. “And on Saturday between 9am and 12pm…so, stop by and pick up some Wayland gear if you so choose.”
