(Beaver Dam) The public is welcomed to a free presentation Wednesday night at the Beaver Dam High School that will highlight the dangers of sextortion. The event, called Suicide by Sextortion: A Fatherโs Story, features a heartbreaking story that impacted an entire family and community.ย ย
John DeMay, a former law enforcement officer, will share how his 17-year-old son spent the last few hours of his life going down a dark road in fear and afraid to ask for help. DeMay will educate you and equip those who attend with shareable knowledge.
5-Stones of Dodge County works to fight against sex trafficking through awareness, prevention, education, networking, and collaboration. Its Founder Tracy Scheffler implores parents to realize with the technological boom, places like Beaver Dam are as susceptible to these crimes as anywhere else in the country.โฏ
โSextortion is even more likely to be happening everywhere because it’s happening online you don’t even need your community, you don’t even need to wonder what your personality of your community is like or how big your city is or how small, or how rural, or how Urban. If you are online, then sextortion is occurringโ, says Scheffler.โฏ
The first 100 attendees to tonightโs event will receive a $10 bill and all in attendance will be eligible to win raffle prizes. No one under the age of 10 will be allowed in due to the sensitive nature of the topic. The recommended age is 12-years-old and up with parental discretion. The presentation will begin at 6:30pm and go until 8pm at the Beaver Dam High School which is located at 500 Gould Street.
