The Dodgeland High School football team has a new leader heading into the 2020 season. Veteran coach Doug Miller stepped down earlier this summer and assistant Paul Scheel has been promoted head coach. Scheel previously spend six seasons as the head coach at Waterloo and ironically took over for coach Miller at that school as well.
The Trojans got a later start to their season than other programs remaining in the fall season. To keep in local with local health regulations, Dodgeland handed equipment out last Thursday, and had their first practice of the season on Monday. Coach Scheel tells DailyDodge.com this kids worked hard in the weight room this summer when local health guidelines allowed them to workout in smaller groups.
Scheel says the the Trojan’s offense will have a bit of a different look than it had under coach Miller. “We will look different. For those that remember some of the things I did at my previous stop in Waterloo. We will be very similar to a lot of that but yet different to fit the kids I have know. Defensively the same thing. ”
The Trojans return five players who earned All-Trailways Large Conference honors in 2019. Offensive lineman John Appenfeldt earned 1st team honors during his junior campaign. Kicker Andrew Benzing was also a 1st team all-league pick. Benzing is also on the wissports.net “Watch List” for the Kevin Stemke Award, which is given annually to the top senior kicker in the state of Wisconsin. Running back Brent Gerke, defensive back Caden Brugger and defensive lineman Louis White all were given Honorable Mention All-Trailways Large recognition.
Dodgeland is now part of the new Eastern Suburban Conference for football that includes; Cambridge, Marshall, Clinton, Markesan, Palmyra-Eagle, Waterloo and Pardeeville. All the schools but Clinton have decided to play football during the fall season.
The Trojans open up their season on October 9th at Pardeeville.
