(Juneau) A Beaver Dam man was charged Monday with failing to return to the Dodge County jail after a medical appointment. Matthew Haas is facing one felony count of Escape Criminal Arrest. In June, Haas was approved to visit the emergency room at Marshfield Medical Center – Beaver Dam. According to the criminal complaint, a family member dropped Haas off at the front door, but they later called the jail saying that he never checked-in. Hospital staff reportedly told authorities they never saw Haas and law enforcement’s attempts to reach him were unsuccessful. Roughly ten hours after leaving the jail, Haas contacted the facility to say he was on his way back and apparently said he was at the hospital the whole time. When Haas returned, Suboxone and morphine were reportedly found in his system. If convicted, the 28-year-old faces up to six years in prison. An initial appearance is scheduled for October 5th.
