(Beaver Dam) Thousands of people crowded the streets of Beaver Dam on Saturday for the seventh annual Fall Downtown Fest. The day was highlighted by trick or treating, the Witches Dance, the Chamber of Mystery, and the casket races. 16 teams competed for the $1,000 grand prize. (Dodge County) Regional jobless claims saw improvements in the ninth of the year. The state Department of Workforce Development says the unemployment rate in Dodge County was 2.3-percent in September, a two-tenths of a percent improvement from August. Last year, the number was 2.5-percent. Dodge County jumped up nine spots in the statewide unemployment ranking to 19th, which is tied with multiple other counties.
(Beaver Dam) Local historian Roger Noll returns to the Beaver Dam Community Library Tuesday night for a showing of his documentary, “Beaver Dam in World War II”. The documentary, shown in the basement of the Beaver Dam Community Library, will highlight the community, includes personal stories, and letters sent home during the war. The program is set to start at 6pm, light refreshments will be available.
(Beaver Dam) Wayland Academy’s presentation of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka premieres Thursday, October 31st and runs through Sunday, November 2nd. The show’s start time is 7:30 pm in the Lindsay Auditorium. The musical includes songs from the 1971 film, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, as well as new songs written for the stage adaptation. (Beaver Dam) SSM Health at home is currently seeking volunteers interested in volunteer opportunities with its Hospice Program. With three different locations between Green Lake and Fond du Lac, SSM at Home Hospice volunteers can choose from companionship visits with hospice patients, office/clerical duties, medication deliveries, veterans’ program and even serving meals at the Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac. The next SSM Health at Home Hospice volunteer training session is scheduled for Thursday, November 7th at SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital from 9am-12pm.
