News – May 20, 2024

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Common Council is set for meet tonight at 7pm.  Items on the agenda include awarding the contract for the Kellom Road Extension Project and awarding temporary liquor licenses to the Beaver Dam Chamber of Commerce for the Taste of Wisconsin in June.  They will also have a Poppy Day Proclamation.   

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Police Department recently responded to a two-vehicle crash that led to a gas leak. Lieutenant Jeremiah Johnson says no one got injured but it could have been worse and resulted in a gigantic explosion. Johnson went on to explain what happened during the crash resulting in one car hitting a gas line near Charlie Brown’s bar.    

(Beaver Dam) As they wrap up this school year, the Beaver Dam United School District is already looking ahead to next year.  Director of Business Services Manager Ryan Cashman says the district is already preparing a preliminary budget for the 2024-25 school year.  He says the initial budget allows the district to start purchasing with a little direction before it gets finalized in the Fall.  The preliminary budget is delivered to the school board in July.   

(Beaver Dam) Dodge County Treasurer Kris Keith has clarified some important questions pertaining to Property Taxes and Assessments. She began by relaying the message to taxpayers that a higher property assessment doesn’t always equate to a heightened tax bill. (Wisconsin) The RAND Corporation recently released their latest Hospital Price Transparency Survey which found that Wisconsin is ranked fifth among states with the highest hospital prices. Wisconsinites paid for hospital services averaging 318 percent of what Medicare would have paid for the same services. Across all states, the average prices were 257 percent of Medicare.
