(Ripon) The Wisconsin State Patrol has identified the Waupun man killed in a two-vehicle crash in Fond du Lac County Thursday morning. The Wisconsin State Patrol and first responders were called to Highway 26 at Hickory Road near Ripon around 3:30am. A preliminary investigation shows that an attached semi-truck tractor was traveling northbound on 26 when it crossed left of center, striking a southbound passenger van. The operator of the van, 59-year-old Paul Moore of Waupun, was fatally injured as a result of the crash. The operator of the semi, 29-year-old Raj Kumar from California, was not injured.
(Wisconsin) The administrator for the stateโs Division of Trade and Consumer Protection says there has been an increase in the number of extortion attempts by email and text. Michelle Reinen says the messages in question falsely claim that the sender has obtained private and potentially damaging information, often video recordings of the target. She recommends not responding to text or email. Other tips include never sending money and change your passwords for all your accounts. She also urges anyone contacted by a scammer to report it by calling 1-800-422-7128.
(Columbus) The Columbus Council approved a Water Quality Treatment Agreement with Stibb Farms. The program allows the municipality to more cost effectively remove pollutants with the same or greater water quality benefit. It also allows Columbus to comply with their permit requirements at a reduced cost to our rate payers. It was established in 2020 between the city and landowner Curt Stibb and has been implemented throughout Columbia County for the last four years. This is a five-year extension of the original agreement.
(Horicon) The Horicon Phoenix Program recently received a grant from the Beaver Dam Area Community Foundation. The $1,000 grant will start the process of replacing and installing new playground equipment for Whitty Park in the late Spring of 2025. The Horicon Phoenix Program is a nonprofit focusing on revitalizing Horicon and Dodge County through events, community building, and projects.
(Calumus) The Leipsic 4-H Club has been busy helping others this past month. Members collected over 40 toys for the local toy bank to help children in need. They also cleaned up County Road DE and the Leipsic Cemetery, with over 10 members volunteering their time. The club also sent care packages to local veterans as a thank you for their service during the National 4-H Week. The Leipsic 4-H Club meets at 7pm on the second Thursday of each month at the St. Katharine Drexel Parish Center. New members are always welcome.
(Lebanon) St. Peters Lutheran Church in Lebanon is hosting a Christmas cookie and craft sale throughout the weekend. The church has made over 3,000 pounds of cookies for their 26th year of the Christmas Cookie Sale. Organizers say all cookies are prepared in the church kitchen by a volunteer crew. They add that each year, cookie lovers pass by the many tables filled with over 130 varieties of cookies to choose their favorites. Cookies will be for sale today (Saturday, December 7th) from 8am to 5pm and tomorrow (Sunday, December 8th) from 9am to 1pm at St. Peterโs of Lebanon, located at W4661 Highway MM.
