News – August 16, 2024

(Waupun) A needed project at Waupun Correctional was approved by the governor’s State Building Commission. The Commission recently signed off on roughly $262-million-dollars in key projects across the state. Authorization was given to upgrade the cameras at the Waupun prison, including transitioning cameras from analog to digital. Other work includes replacing cameras in the Restrictive Housing Unit, which state officials say will further the safety of staff and individuals in the care of the Department of Corrections. 

(Watertown) The leader of the Watertown Fire Department recently provided a staffing update on WBEV’s Community Comment. Chief Tanya Reynen says there are a few openings yet because of a recent retirement and a few positions still empty from when she began her tenure. She says they are looking at making some changes to open the door for more opportunities. The fire chief adds they will be starting a new hiring process soon with firefighter E.M.T.s and then giving time to become a paramedic later. 

(Columbus) The Columbus City Council discussed an amendment related to items going to the Committee of the Whole at a recent meeting. The amendment calls for items that are reviewed by a city committee bypass the committee of the whole and go straight to council. City Administrator Matt Amundson says the city has been struggling to fill committee positions and adds that in the previous cities he has worked in, the committees do most of the work and provide a better insight on certain agenda items.   

(Beaver Dam) It’s day three at the Dodge County Fair. Matt Stell is tonight’s main stage act starting at 8pm. At Radio Park, it’s Kids and Families Day. There will be yard games and giveaways from 11am to 1pm. From 1pm to 1:45pm, there will be performances from 4H and FFA youth music. Daily gate admission is $10 before noon and $15 after that.

(Beaver Dam) Area youth sold off their prize-winning livestock during last (Thursday) night’s 61st Annual Meat Animal Auction at the Dodge County Fair. A full recap and video of the sale is available at DailyDodge.com. 

(Columbus) The Columbus Area Aquatic Center invites residents to their Back to School Night on August 18th from 5pm to 8pm. Attendees will receive free back to school supplies and every school aged child will get one free duck with a chance to win one of five backpacks filled with prizes. The cost is $3 for nightly admissions, those aged 2 and under are $1, and all Columbus Area Aquatic Center members are free.
