UPDATED 10:45pm (Beaver Dam) Multiple agencies responded to a structure fire in Beaver Dam last (Thursday) night. Crews were dispatched to the 500 block of Mackie Street around 6:45pm. Police Lt. Jeremiah Johnson says initial responders quickly realized that the situation was far more severe that what had been reported.
“We determined that it was actually the structure and not a smoker in the backyard as they did report initially,” Johnson says.
Flames were visible from two-story, residential home as firefighters arrived on scene.
“We determined that with the amount of smoke coming out of the building that it would not be safe to open up the doors or crack a window and introduce more oxygen into the building,” Johnson says, “so we did not do that. We then determined that with the amount of fire that there was, we were going to evacuate the two buildings to the west and to the east… as a safety precaution.”
Beaver Dam is receiving mutual assistance from several fire departments including Juneau, Horicon, Waupun and Watertown along with Alliant Energy.
