Moraine Park Announces Two New Associate Degree Programs

FOND DU LAC – Moraine Park Technical College is adding two new associate degree programs beginning in fall 2026.

The college announced the launch of Foundations of Teacher Education and Fire Medic, saying both programs were developed in response to workforce needs in education and emergency services.

The Foundations of Teacher Education Associate of Applied Science degree is designed for students interested in supporting classroom instruction in K-12 schools. Moraine Park says students will learn strategies for assisting with math, science, reading, and writing, while also focusing on tutoring, student engagement, communication, and individualized or small-group support.

Graduates will be prepared to work primarily in elementary and middle school settings as paraprofessionals and educational support professionals.

The teacher education degree will be offered fully online. Moraine Park says the program can also serve as a local starting point for students interested in eventually becoming licensed kindergarten through ninth grade educators through bachelor’s degree transfer opportunities. The program will also include dual credit opportunities for high school students.

Chris Schatz, dean of health and human services at Moraine Park, says the program gives students an affordable, local pathway to make a meaningful difference in classrooms while building a foundation for a long-term education career.

The new Fire Medic Associate of Applied Science degree is designed for students pursuing careers in fire service and paramedicine. The college says the program combines firefighter and paramedic training to prepare students for emergencies faced by fire and rescue departments.

Moraine Park says Fire Medic graduates will be eligible to take the National Registry EMT-Paramedic examination, along with the State of Wisconsin Certified Firefighter 1 and Certified Firefighter 2 examinations.

Andrew Baus, associate dean of human services at Moraine Park, says fire departments need professionals prepared to respond in many different situations.

Applications for both programs are open for fall 2026. Students interested in starting either program this fall are encouraged to apply by July 15.
