Milwaukee Man Given Probation For Mailing In Cellphone To Fox Lake Prison

(Fox Lake) A Milwaukee man was placed on probation for one year Thursday for mailing in a cellphone to an inmate of Fox Lake Correctional. Steven Robertson entered a no contest plea to a felony count of Deliver Illegal Articles to an Inmate. A mailroom officer at the Fox Lake prison inspected an envelope addressed to an inmate that contained a rectangular metal objects last August. After running the envelope through an x-ray machine, the object was discovered to be a cellphone. The 54-year-old used the return address of a Milwaukee law firm in attempts to keep the package from being opened by prison officials. At sentencing, state prosecutors said the public may not understand that a cellphone is one of the most dangerous things to smuggle into a prison. They add that it becomes how inmates arrange to have drugs and even weapons smuggled in from the outside. It also allows prisoners to direct illegal enterprises out in the community
