Mayville Boys Hoops Playing Well Down The Stretch

The Mayville High School boys basketball team is one of the hottest team in the area heading down the homestretch of the regular season.   The Cardinals (15-4) have won 11 of their last 12 games after Monday night’s 64-55 win over Kiel.

1st year coach Zach Jahns’ squad was picked 5th in the Wisconsin Flyway Conference in Mark Miller’s Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook’s preseason predictions, but have wrapped up a 2nd place finish behind league champ St. Mary’s Springs Academy.

“From day one we’ve preached defense and toughness and rebounding.” Coach Jahns told DailyDodge.com.  “We know to be successful we need to get stops and stops fuel the strength of our offense which is transition and getting a lot of the break because we have great athletes and guys that run the floor and share the ball.”

Sophomore Adison Mittelstadt leads a talented group of players averaging a team high 18.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest. Senior Hunter Traver is scoring at a 15.5 points per game clip while junior Braedon Vollmer is also in double digits at 10.2 points per game.

The Cardinals wrap up their regular season on Friday night when they host Markesan.  Mayville drew a #2 seed in the upcoming WIAA boys basketball playoffs and will host either Campbellsport or North Fond du Lac on February 19th in a Regional Semifinal.
