(Markesan) Markesan has a new police chief. The position has been filled by Doug Wiorek, a retired Milwaukee police sergeant with a law enforcement career spanning over three decades. He was a patrol officer for 13 years and a police supervisor for 19 years.
Wiorek joined the Markesan Police Department last week. He succeeds Will Pflum who retired from the department last month after 26 years, the last ten years spent as chief.
Wiorek has experience in police policy, technology and community policing. He will be hosting a community meet-and-greet in late May.
Department officials say this will be an opportunity in a social setting to ask questions, discuss concerns, and an opportunity to learn more about the new chief. A date and time will be shared in the coming weeks.
